The Namibian government has reached out to Nigeria for support in enhancing its anti-corruption efforts, marking a step towards regional collaboration in combating corruption.
During a visit to the headquarters of Nigeria's Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Namibian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Humphrey Geiseb, emphasized the importance of learning from Nigeria's successes, particularly in asset recovery.
Ambassador Geiseb stated, "Nigeria occupies an exalted position in the fight against corruption in Africa," highlighting the need for Namibia to benefit from Nigeria's expertise. He proposed that the Namibian Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) could gain valuable insights from the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), especially regarding their achievements in recovering stolen assets.
In response, ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu expressed readiness to collaborate with Namibia, underscoring the necessity of joint efforts among African nations to effectively tackle corruption. He noted, "Those who indulge in corruption have their networks. So, we too on the continent need to come together so that we can distort the illegal methods."
Dr. Aliyu also mentioned the potential role of the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria in training Namibian ACC personnel, fostering a mutual exchange of knowledge and strategies.
