The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has publicly criticized Starlink for unilaterally increasing its subscription packages without obtaining the necessary approval from the regulatory body.
This action was highlighted in a statement by Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at NCC, on October 9. According to Muoka, Starlink's decision to adjust its prices contravenes Sections 108 and 111 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, as well as the tariff-related conditions outlined in Starlink's license.
Muoka emphasized that the NCC had already initiated pre-enforcement action against Starlink on October 3, due to this breach.
He stated, "The company’s decision to adjust its prices without approval undermines regulatory stability in the telecommunications sector." The NCC is committed to taking "appropriate enforcement measures" to address this issue and prevent future non-compliance by licensees.
