The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted 50,000 pills of tramadol, each with a potency of 225mg, that were being smuggled from Ghana into Lagos.
This operation was part of an intelligence-led initiative aimed at curbing the influx of illicit drugs into Nigeria.
The Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA, Mr. Femi Babafemi, announced the successful interception in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja. He detailed that the pills were ingeniously concealed within the body compartments of a Toyota Hummer Bus operated by GUO Transport Company.
The vehicle was apprehended at the Ijanikin area along the Lagos-Badagry expressway, marking another triumph in the agency's ongoing efforts to dismantle trans-border drug trafficking networks. Mr. Babafemi emphasized the importance of such operations, stating, "This interception is a testament to our commitment to safeguarding the nation from the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking."
He further highlighted the agency's recent successes, including the recovery of 997kg of cannabis during various raids across Edo state and other significant seizures in Lagos, Kano, Kwara, and Imo states.
The NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, commended the officers involved, noting their dedication and strategic approach to both drug supply reduction and demand mitigation. "Our operational successes are a result of the relentless efforts of our officers and the cooperation among regional authorities," Marwa remarked, underscoring the critical need for continued vigilance and collaboration in combating drug-related crimes.
