Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who recently clinched a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, is at the center of a renewed controversy following claims from a leaked medical report.

The report alleges that Khelif is biologically male, a claim that has sparked widespread calls for her to be stripped of her Olympic title. This controversy has reignited discussions about gender identity in sports, with many questioning the validity of the allegations.

Khelif's journey to Olympic glory was marked by intense scrutiny and online abuse, largely stemming from previous disqualifications by the Russian-led International Boxing Association (IBA).

The IBA had claimed that Khelif failed an unspecified gender test, which reportedly showed male chromosomes. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has consistently defended Khelif, affirming her eligibility based on the gender listed on her passport.

Despite the backlash, Khelif has maintained her stance, asserting, "I'm a woman like any other woman. I was born as a woman, I live as a woman, and I am qualified." She has also called for an end to the bullying and misconceptions surrounding her gender, emphasizing that such scrutiny "harms human dignity."

The IOC's decision to permanently ban the IBA from the Olympics last year due to governance and transparency issues further complicates the situation. As the debate continues, Khelif remains focused on her achievements, stating that the adversity she faced only made her victory "special."
