A recent New York Times/Siena College poll reveals that Vice President Kamala Harris has gained a significant lead over former President Donald Trump in three crucial battleground states.
Conducted between August 5 and 9, 2024, the survey indicates Harris is ahead by four points among likely voters in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
This marks a notable shift in voter sentiment since Harris officially became the Democratic nominee following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race on July 21, 2024.
In Pennsylvania, Harris leads Trump by 4 points among likely voters and 3 points among registered voters, with a margin of error of 4.2 points.
Similarly, in Michigan, she holds a 4-point advantage among likely voters but trails by 2 points among registered voters, with a margin of error of 4.8 points.
In Wisconsin, Harris is ahead by 4 points among likely voters and 5 points among registered voters, with a margin of error of 4.3 points.
These findings come as Harris' favorability rating has surged by 10 percentage points in Pennsylvania over the past month.
Despite this momentum, the polls also highlight areas where Trump maintains voter trust, particularly on issues like the economy and immigration.
Nationally, the race remains highly competitive, with Harris barely leading overall according to Real Clear Politics’ poll tracker.
The Cook Political Report identifies six true toss-up states for the upcoming election: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
While Harris leads in five of these states, Trump still holds an edge in one. The evolving dynamics in these key regions will be critical as both candidates continue their campaigns toward the 2024 presidential election.
