The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has auctioned seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, in Yola, Adamawa State, at a rate of N630 per litre.

This initiative is part of the NCS's broader Operation Whirlwind, which aims to curb the illegal movement of petroleum products across Nigeria's borders.

Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, represented by Deputy Controller General Olaniyi Olajugun, announced the auction during a press briefing in the North-Eastern state.

He highlighted the operation's success, stating, "Our ongoing operations have recorded substantial seizures in various locations, including the North-West borders in the Sokoto-Kebbi axis, the South-West borders around the Seme-Badagry and Idiroko axis, and the southern borders in Cross River and Akwa Ibom states."

The recent phase of Operation Whirlwind resulted in the seizure of two lorries carrying smuggled petroleum products, 1,046 kegs filled with PMS, and 12 drums of petroleum products.

Additionally, one suspect was apprehended in connection with these activities. The Comptroller General emphasized the importance of community involvement, urging Nigerians, particularly those in border states like Adamawa, to support the operation.

"Your vigilance and cooperation are crucial in our collective efforts to safeguard our nation’s resources," he added.
