The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is set to establish three new e-border stations in Jigawa State, a move aimed at enhancing border security and curbing criminal activities such as smuggling and trans-border crimes.
This initiative was announced on September 11, 2024, by Assistant Controller-General Haladu Usman during a courtesy visit to Governor Umar Namadi in Dutse.
Usman emphasized the importance of these e-border stations, stating, "The e-border project is a continuous one and it is meant to monitor the border to reduce the incidences of border crossings by criminals involved in trans-border crimes." He further appealed for the state government's support in providing land for the construction of these stations in Kumsa, Dangwanki, and Galadi.
Governor Namadi expressed his full support for the project, recognizing the critical role of technology in modern security efforts. "The innovation of the e-border project is a good one because in today’s world, without technology you will be left behind," he said.
Namadi assured that the state government would collaborate with the NIS to ensure the successful establishment of these stations.
The NIS has praised the Jigawa State government for its previous assistance, which has enabled the service to discharge its duties effectively.
The agency aims to expand the e-border project nationwide, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring across various state commands and the NIS headquarters.
