The Federal Government of Nigeria has embarked on a transformative project with the construction of the Gateway Inland Dry Port in Ogun State. This initiative, which commenced on October 12, 2024, is set to revolutionize the country's logistics infrastructure.

The ceremonial groundbreaking was conducted by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola.

Designed to international standards, the port will incorporate advanced digital systems for tracking, clearance, and cargo movement, ensuring efficiency and global competitiveness.

"This project is about laying the foundation for a key logistics hub that would facilitate the movement of goods across Nigeria," stated Minister Oyetola during the event held at Kajola, in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area.

The Gateway Inland Dry Port is expected to create over 5,000 direct jobs and 15,000 indirect jobs, significantly boosting local businesses and attracting investments.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun highlighted the project's potential, saying, "This is not merely the foundation of a dry port, but the beginning of a new era of economic growth, job creation, and increased prosperity."

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council has been directed to ensure the port's development as a state-of-the-art facility, integrating advanced technology and leveraging information and communication technology (ICT) to support modern port processes.

This aligns with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to foster innovation and economic growth through improved infrastructure and investment opportunities.

Furthermore, the port is anticipated to enhance the efficiency of Nigeria’s logistics network, reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with road transportation, and promote environmentally sustainable practices. As Minister Oyetola expressed,

"This inland dry port is expected to enhance the efficiency of our logistics network, reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with road transportation, and promote environmentally-sustainable practices."
