The Nigeria Navy announced a significant operation under "Operation Delta Sanity," successfully deactivating two illegal oil refining sites in Delta State.
These operations took place in the Obodo Omani Community and Bennett Island, both located in Warri South-West Local Government Area.
The Navy's efforts led to the discovery and destruction of facilities equipped with four refining ovens and five storage tanks. Additionally, numerous sacks containing illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) were seized.
In a statement released on their verified Facebook page, the Navy detailed the operation: “On Wednesday 23 October 2024, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) DELTA discovered and deactivated 2 illegal refining sites and 13 dugout pits laden with an unspecified amount of stolen crude oil.”
This crackdown is part of a broader initiative aimed at combating oil theft and illegal refining activities that threaten both the economic stability and environmental safety of the region.
The operation highlights the ongoing challenges in managing Nigeria's oil resources and underscores the critical role of the Nigeria Navy in addressing these issues.
