The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of popular investigative journalist, PIDOM, whose real name is Bristol Isaac Tamunobiefiri.

The arrest, which took place on August 5, 2024, in his hotel room in Rivers State, was officially announced on August 24, 2024.
According to a statement released by the police spokesman, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, PIDOM was apprehended by officials from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC).
The journalist faces several serious allegations, including unlawful possession and leakage of classified documents, as well as cyber-related offenses.
"In a well-coordinated effort, officials from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) apprehended Bristol Isaac Tamunobiefiri, also known as PIDOM, on allegations of committing serious offenses that undermine the integrity of government operations," said ACP Muyiwa Adejobi. "We will do due diligence in carrying out thorough investigation into the cases.

The force will leave no stone unturned to continually enforce the law and bequeath to Nigerians a more secure nation."
The arrest has sparked public debate and criticism. Many see it as an attack on freedom of speech and press liberties. Comments on social media and various platforms have been overwhelmingly critical of the government's actions.
One anonymous commenter stated, "Tinubu's government has now resorted to intimidation. He won't be in government forever." Another remarked, "Only Country where Arrest Preceded Investigation!!!! Nigeria Amaka!!!!"
David Hundeyin, another investigative journalist, had raised alarm over PIDOM's disappearance on Friday, August 23, 2024, further fueling public concern and scrutiny over the incident.
