Nigeria experienced a surge in domestic airfare prices, with the average cost for a single journey rising by 25.51% to N123,700 from N98,561 in July.
This data, disclosed by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in its Transport Fare Watch report released on September 25, 2024, also indicates a broader year-on-year increase of 56.56%.
The highest airfares were recorded in Niger state at N129,575.21 and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, at N129,442.67. Conversely, Zamfara had the lowest fare at N102,665.89, followed by Cross River at N120,088.93.
This sharp rise in airfare is part of a larger trend affecting various transportation sectors, including road, water, and train services, all of which have seen price hikes due to escalating energy costs.
