The Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, emphasized the necessity for accurate, reliable, and timely energy data.

Speaking at the launch of the National Energy Information System (NEIS) at the ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, Nnaji stated, “The current need for energy transition calls for a more holistic approach that will revolutionise the process, so that project designs, policies and strategies are informed by high-quality and reliable energy data.”

The NEIS, developed by the Energy Commission of Nigeria, is a computerized system designed to improve data collection methods, reduce errors, and enhance data quality.

This initiative aims to dematerialize data collection processes, thereby facilitating informed decision-making and efficient resource management across all sectors of the economy.

Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha, the Director General and CEO of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, explained that the NEIS will serve as a repository of bankable energy data.

He noted, “The collated data would serve as inputs into the development, operation and maintenance of the National Energy Information System, which will be accessed by Researchers, Development Partners, Individuals and organisations to plan, make informed decisions and take effective actions in the management of energy supply, use and costs."
