The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of a soldier responsible for the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy, Ismail Mohammed, during the ongoing EndBadGovernance protest in Kaduna State.
The incident occurred on August 6, 2024, when troops were deployed to the Samaru community in Zaria to disperse protesters and enforce a curfew imposed by the Kaduna State Government.
According to a statement by the Nigerian Army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, the troops received a distress call about hoodlums gathering in large numbers, burning tires, and pelting stones at security personnel.
Upon arrival, the soldiers faced an aggressive mob, prompting one soldier to fire a warning shot that tragically resulted in the death of Ismail Mohammed. The soldier involved has been arrested and is undergoing interrogation.
