Nigerian Army Rescues Kidnapped Corps Member, Others in Benue State

Esther

The 401 Special Forces Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector One, successfully rescued a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Samuel Muekara, along with six other individuals from kidnappers in Benue State.

The rescue took place in the Ukum local government area, specifically along the Wukari/Zaki-Biam route, where the victims had been abducted.

The group responsible for these kidnappings is linked to the notorious criminal network of the late Terwase Akwaza, also known as Gana.

Members of this group, identified as "Full Fire," Ayongo, and Chen, have been terrorizing the region, using nearby settlements such as Chito village and Adamawa village as their hideouts.

These heavily armed bandits have turned kidnapping into a major source of income, operating brazenly in broad daylight.

Despite the families of the victims raising over N20 million in ransom, the captives were not released until the military intervened. One victim recounted, “One of us, Rabiu Muhammad, who came to pay ransom for his cousin Ibrahim Umar, became a kidnapped victim himself after he had paid the ransom.”

Another victim, Blessing Ayuba, shared a similar ordeal, having been kidnapped while attempting to secure her son’s release.
