The Nigerian Army has committed to ongoing military operations in the Okuama community, located in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, until their stolen equipment and arms are fully recovered.
This declaration was made by Major General J.H. Abdusallam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, during a press briefing. "We will continue to conduct operations until our equipment and our arms that were carted away are recovered," Maj. Gen. Abdusallam stated emphatically while addressing journalists.
The GOC recounted with sorrow the brutal killing of troops in Okuama in March 2024, which has intensified the Army's resolve to maintain a presence in the area. He also refuted allegations that the Army had invaded the community on Monday, clarifying that their actions were part of standard military operations.
"This is Nigeria. I don’t understand when you say Nigerian Army invaded a place. When the Nigerian Army goes to operations in a place, it is called operations. Why do you say it’s an invasion?" Abdusallam questioned. "If we are conducting normal military operations in other places, it’s normal military operation, not invasion. So it’s normal military operation that the military went to conduct in Okuama, not invasion."
