Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has voiced his strong support for appointing a local coach to lead Nigeria's national football team.

This comes amidst the Nigeria Football Federation's (NFF) ongoing search for a foreign coach, following an unsuccessful attempt to hire German coach Bruno Labbadia.

Troost-Ekong, who currently plays for Al-Khaloood in Saudi Arabia, emphasized the unique advantages of having a Nigerian coach. "I’ve always said that having a coach from Nigeria is an advantage. Someone who has been in our shoes and understands what we’re going through can bring that experience to the team," he told reporters in Uyo.

Despite the NFF's preference for an expatriate coach, Troost-Ekong believes that a local coach would be more beneficial for the team.

The NFF had announced in June that they would appoint an expatriate to lead the Super Eagles, but their efforts have so far been unsuccessful.
