The Nigerian government has taken a significant step towards sustainable energy by launching a 'convert and pay later' portal, designed to facilitate the transition from Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicles.

This initiative is part of the broader Presidential CNG initiative, which aims to reduce road transportation costs by 40% in response to the rising fuel prices that have surged to between N950.22 and N1,100 per liter.

The core of this initiative is the newly unveiled portal, which allows vehicle owners to convert their petrol-powered vehicles to CNG.

The conversion costs can be paid through affordable monthly installments, making the switch more financially accessible. As stated by the National Orientation Agency, "Switching to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is now more accessible than ever. With flexible payment plans tailored to fit your budget, transitioning from petrol to CNG has never been smoother or more affordable."

This move comes as part of a strategic effort to expand CNG conversion centers across Nigeria, with facilities already established in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Ogun, Ekiti, Nasarawa, and other states.

The government has set an ambitious target of converting 1 million vehicles by 2027, underscoring its commitment to reducing transportation expenses and promoting cleaner energy alternatives.

The 'convert and pay later' portal is designed to streamline the conversion process with an easy online application and quick approval, ensuring a hassle-free experience for users. This approach not only addresses the immediate economic challenges posed by high fuel prices but also aligns with global trends towards sustainable energy solutions.
