The governors of Nigeria's 36 states gathered in Abuja to deliberate on significant national issues, focusing primarily on constitutional amendments and stamp duty concerns.
This meeting shows the ongoing efforts to address legislative reforms and economic challenges within the country. Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, provided a comprehensive update on the progress of constitutional amendments.
"The House has received 40 bills concerning the review and amendment of the nation’s constitution," Kalu stated, emphasizing the importance of these legislative changes. He further noted that the House is working towards a December 2025 deadline to complete the amendment process.
In addition to constitutional matters, the meeting also addressed the contentious issue of stamp duty, which has been a point of debate between the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
