The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially denied reports suggesting that Nigerians residing in Libya are being subjected to mass arrests and harassment. These allegations surfaced following a recent ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which favored Nigeria.

The CAF decision involved awarding points to the Nigerian football team, the Super Eagles, and imposing a $50,000 fine on Libya due to the mistreatment of the Nigerian team during a Nations Cup Qualifying Match.

According to the information provided, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria has issued a statement to clarify the situation. They emphasized that "Nigerians in Libya are going about their daily activities, devoid of any form of harassment by Libyan authorities."

This statement aims to reassure the public and counter the claims made by some Libyan news platforms, which suggested increasing taxes on Nigerians to cover the CAF-imposed fine.

The Ministry's statement further highlights the Nigerian government's commitment to protecting its citizens abroad. It reads: "The well-being of Nigerian citizens anywhere in the world is a top priority of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and will continue to strive to safeguard it at all times."
