The Nigerian government has announced plans to restore electricity supply to several northern states that have been experiencing a weeklong blackout.

This update was provided on October 26, 2024, through the official account of Nigeria National Grid. The government intends to temporarily supply 400 megawatts of power to the affected region via the Ugwuaji APIR Line.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s special adviser on public communications, Sunday Dare, disclosed that the Office of National Security Adviser (NSA) is coordinating a joint effort with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the Army to monitor the 330 kV Shiroro-Kaduna lines 1 and 2, which were recently vandalized.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that its team has identified the faults and is actively working to rectify them. "Restoration of Line L2 is nearing completion, and work on the second line will commence promptly afterward," TCN stated.

The blackout has affected several states, including Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Benue, Katsina, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, and Nasarawa, following a collapse of the national grid.
