The Nigerian government has announced its decision to terminate contracts on ten ongoing road projects in Niger State due to major delays.
This ultimatum was issued by the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, during a meeting held in Abuja with key stakeholders, including the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago, and members of the National Assembly from the state.
The minister expressed dissatisfaction with contractors who had received advance payments but failed to deliver on their commitments, emphasizing that the current administration prioritizes speed, quality, and value for money.
The projects affected include the 52km Agaje-Katcha-Baro road under Contract No: 6254, managed by GR Building and Construction Nig. Ltd, and the dualization of the Suleja – Lambata – Minna Road, Phase I and II, handled by Salini Nigeria Ltd. Other projects involve the dualization of the Ilorin, Jebba – Mokwa – Bokani Junction Road Sections I and II, reconstruction of the Bida – Lapai – Lambatta Road, and rehabilitation of the Mokwa – Makera – Tegina – Kaduna State road, all managed by CGC Nig. Ltd.
Additionally, the rehabilitation of the Minna – Zungeru – Tegina – Kontagora Road (Section 2) by Gilmor Engineering Nig Ltd, construction of the Minna – Zungeru – Tegina Road by Develeco Nig Ltd/HMF Construction Ltd, and reconstruction of the Bida – Cernu – Wushishi – Zungeru Road by Gerawa Global Engineering Ltd are included in the list.
Minister Umahi warned that contractors failing to meet the government's standards would face consequences, highlighting the administration's commitment to ensuring that federal roads are motorable by Christmas. This decisive action is part of a broader effort to address over 2,000 incomplete road projects inherited by the current administration, as stated by Umahi in previous engagements.
