In a provocative and controversial statement, Nigerian pastor and former singer Emmanuel Okose has declared that "sex before marriage is not a sin."
This assertion was made in a Facebook post dated August 8th, 2024, where Okose argued that there is no divine law prohibiting premarital sex, suggesting instead that such a rule is a human invention. He stated, "GOD NEVER GAVE THAT LAW MAN DID STUDY YOUR BIBLE WELL."
Okose's argument centers on the idea that many religious practices are based on human suggestions rather than divine commandments.
He criticized religious leaders for transferring their confusion to their congregations, resulting in a generation of believers who follow these man-made rules without question.
He wrote, "WE LIVE IN A GENERATION OF RELIGIOUS CONFUSED LEADER WHO HAS TRANSFERRED THEIR CONFUSION TO THE CONGREGATION AND NOW WE HAVE BUNCH OF CONFUSED PEOPLE WHO THINK AS THEIR LEADER THINKS."
The pastor further contended that it is unrealistic to expect two people who love each other deeply to abstain from sex.
He questioned, "TELL ME HOW DO YOU LOVE SOMEONE DEEPLY BOTH OF YOU HAVE SERIOUS AFFECTION FOR EACH OTHER AND YOUR TELLING ME S3X WILL NOT BE INVOLVED."
Okose also pointed out that many who have adhered to the "no sex before marriage" rule have ended up in unhappy marriages, sometimes even marrying individuals he referred to as "Satan's son."
