The Nigerian House of Representatives has summoned the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS).
This action follows explosive claims involving popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky.
Bobrisky, who was recently sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse, is at the center of a bribery scandal. A trending voice conversation on social media suggested that Bobrisky paid ₦15 million to unnamed EFCC officers to drop money laundering charges against him.
The audio clip, released by social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as Very Darkman (VDM), further alleged that Bobrisky secured VIP treatment instead of serving time in a regular prison facility.
The House of Representatives, acting on these allegations, has called for an investigation. In a letter dated September 27, 2024, the Joint Committees of the House requested that Olukoyede and the NCoS Comptroller General appear before them on Monday, September 30th, along with all officers involved in the allegation.
"The House Committee has extended invitations to both Bobrisky and VDM to assist investigators in unearthing the alleged bribery," stated Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesman. He added, "To this end, the Commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse (VeryDarkMan) to make themselves available at its Lagos Directorate."
