Nigeria's Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, suggested that the public outcry over the steep increase in petrol prices to N1000 per litre has been subdued due to improvements in the country's power supply.
According to Adelabu, the enhanced electricity availability has reduced the reliance on petrol-powered generators, which were previously a necessity for many Nigerians.
Adelabu's assertion was made during a conference in Abuja on October 15, 2024. He noted that despite the perceived reduction in complaints, Nigeria's power generation capacity remains critically low, with only 2000 megawatts added to the national grid over the past forty years.
