The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting a mix of sunshine and haziness from Thursday to Saturday across various regions of Nigeria.
This forecast highlights the diverse climatic conditions expected throughout the country over the coming days. According to NiMet, "a sunny and hazy atmosphere is anticipated over parts of Borno, Adamawa, and Taraba states on Thursday," with moderate dust haze affecting visibility.
The agency further predicts that in the northern region, horizontal visibility could be reduced to between 1km and 3km due to the dust haze, particularly on Friday.
In the North Central region, similar conditions are expected, with moderate dust haze reducing visibility to between 2km and 5km. Meanwhile, the southern region will experience a sunny and hazy atmosphere over inland states. However, coastal areas such as Ogun, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States may see "localised thunderstorms with moderate rains" later in the afternoon and evening hours.
NiMet advises the public to take necessary precautions, especially those with respiratory issues, as "dust particles are in suspension."
The agency also warns that strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely, urging people to adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities. Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective planning, ensuring safety and efficiency in operations during this period of variable weather conditions.
