The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a three-day period of sunshine and dust haze across the country, starting from Wednesday, November 20 to Friday, November 22, 2024.

According to NiMet's weather outlook released on Tuesday, November 18 in Abuja, moderate dust haze is expected on Wednesday in the northern region, with horizontal visibility ranging from 2km to 5km over states such as Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Kaduna. The North Central region is anticipated to experience slight dust haze during this period.

In the southern region, a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds is expected over the inland and coastal cities in the morning hours, except for Lagos where mist is predicted. Later in the day, localized thunderstorms with rains are expected over parts of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.

On Thursday, the northern region will continue to experience slight dust haze, while the North Central region will see similar conditions. In the southern region, a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds is expected, with mist anticipated in Bayelsa and Delta. Localized thunderstorms with slight rains are likely over parts of Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states later in the day.

By Friday, the northern region is expected to have a sunny atmosphere, while the North Central region will experience a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds. In the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere is expected in the morning, with localized thunderstorms and moderate rain anticipated over parts of Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states in the afternoon and evening.

NiMet advises the public to take necessary precautions due to dust particles in suspension, particularly those with asthmatic and other respiratory conditions. Strong winds may precede rains in areas prone to thunderstorms, and the public is urged to adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities. Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
