NiMet Predicts 3-Day Thunderstorm Across Nigeria Starting Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a forecast predicting thunderstorms and rains across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday. According to the weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet anticipates significant weather events that will affect various regions of the country. On Monday, thunderstorms are expected to hit northern states such as Sokoto, Kebbi, and Borno.
The Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, and Kwara States will experience isolated thunderstorms during the morning hours. The southwest inland and coastal states, including Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa, are forecasted to have morning rains. Tuesday's forecast continues with thunderstorms anticipated over parts of Taraba, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, and Zamfara States in the morning. Later in the day, these storms will extend to Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa States.
The Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Benue, and Nasarawa States will also see thunderstorms, while the southern regions, including Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers States, will experience morning rains. By Wednesday, morning thunderstorms are predicted over Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Borno, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi States. Isolated thunderstorms will occur in Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, Kaduna, Kano, and Katsina States later in the day.
The Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue States will also be affected by thunderstorms. The southern states will continue to experience rains and cloudy skies, with thunderstorms expected later in the day over most parts of Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo, and Delta States. NiMet has urged residents to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding caused by heavy downpours.
The agency also warned that strong winds might precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur, advising the public to take adequate precautions. Additionally, airline operators are recommended to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
