NiMet Predicts 3-Day Thunderstorms, Rains Starting Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a detailed weather forecast predicting rainy and thundery conditions across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.


According to NiMet, "isolated thunderstorms" are expected over parts of Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba states during Monday morning hours.


The forecast also anticipates "intermittent rains" over Niger, Benue, Kogi, Kwara States, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the morning.


In the afternoon and evening, "localized rains" are predicted over parts of the FCT, Plateau, Niger, and Nasarawa states. Additionally, isolated rains are expected over Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia, Imo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Cross River states during the morning hours, with localized rains anticipated later in the day over Abia, Ebonyi, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Ogun, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Edo states.


For Tuesday, NiMet forecasts isolated thunderstorms over Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, and Taraba states in the morning, extending to Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Yobe, Zamfara, Sokoto, Borno, Taraba, Kebbi, Kano, and Jigawa states later in the day.


Morning rains are expected over Benue, Kogi, the FCT, and Nasarawa states, with intermittent rains over Edo, Ondo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa states.


Wednesday's forecast includes thunderstorms over Kebbi, Bauchi, Sokoto, Borno, and Katsina states in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening over Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Adamawa, Kano, and Taraba states. Morning rains are expected over the FCT and Niger states, with cloudy skies and moderate rains over Abia, Ebonyi, Ondo, Imo, Edo, Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Cross River states later in the day.


NiMet advises residents to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding from heavy downpours. The agency also warns that "strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur," urging the public to take adequate precautions and adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.
