NNPCL Appeals to Nigerians for Understanding as Fuel Scarcity Worsen

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has called on Nigerians and the international community to understand the ongoing fuel scarcity affecting various parts of the country.

In a statement released on August 19, 2024, NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye disclosed that the company achieved a remarkable profit of N3.3 trillion for the 2023 financial year, marking a 28% increase from the previous year's profit of N2.548 trillion.

Addressing the fuel queues in major cities like Lagos and Abuja, Dapo Segun, Executive Vice President, Downstream, explained that the scarcity is primarily due to logistical challenges. "We are working closely with relevant stakeholders to address distribution and evacuation logistics issues causing the ongoing fuel scarcity," Segun stated.

Despite these operational hurdles, NNPCL remains committed to resolving the situation.

The company also highlighted its significant financial growth, which shows its resilience and strategic management.

In addition to the fuel scarcity issue, NNPCL has been involved in other notable activities.

The company recently denied allegations of owing $6.8 billion and uncovered 63 illegal refineries in the Niger Delta.

Furthermore, a Senate committee audit report revealed that NNPCL, along with other entities like the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Police, had not complied with invitations for an audit review.

"We urge the public to be patient as we navigate these challenges. Our focus remains on ensuring a stable supply of fuel across the nation," Soneye added.
