NNPCL Called Upon to Remove Hidden Levies and Charges on Dangote Fuel Prices

The Coalition for Energy Reforms and Good Governance Advocacy has called upon the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to eliminate hidden levies and charges on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sourced from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

This appeal comes in response to a recent increase in fuel prices that has sparked widespread public discontent across Nigeria.

The coalition, led by Executive Director Dr. Jonathan Amande, issued a statement in Abuja highlighting the unjustified nature of these hidden charges.

They argue that such levies, including those imposed by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), inflate the cost of locally produced fuel without justification.

The coalition asserts that “these invisible government levies” are unnecessary and prevent the Dangote Refinery from offering more affordable fuel prices to Nigerians.

The statement emphasizes that removing these additional charges could allow local refineries to sell fuel at prices as low as ₦400 per litre, significantly easing the financial burden on citizens.

The coalition's demand shows broader concerns about fuel pricing and governance, calling for increased transparency and reform within the energy sector.

This move is seen as a critical step towards improving affordability and alleviating the economic strain caused by elevated fuel costs.
