NNPCL Denies Rumours of Kyari's Imminent Resignation as GCEO

Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has firmly dismissed rumors suggesting that its Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mele Kyari, is set to step down.

These speculations emerged following a leadership shakeup within the company, but NNPCL's spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, has labeled the claims as "baseless and unfounded."

The rumors, initially reported by The Africa Report, alleged that Kyari might be forced out before the end of the year, citing anonymous sources who claimed he had expressed a readiness to leave.

However, Soneye refuted these allegations, describing them as "immature narratives lacking substance."

He emphasized that under Kyari's leadership, NNPCL has achieved significant milestones, including transitioning from years of losses to declaring profits and reaching a production milestone of 1.8 million barrels per day.

Soneye further stated, "Kyari remains focused on advancing Nigeria’s energy sector and actualizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for progress and development."

He likened the speculation to a mirage, reaffirming Kyari’s commitment to delivering energy security for the nation.
