No Directive Yet On ₦‎70,000 Minimum Wage For Corps Members – NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially addressed and refuted circulating rumors regarding the payment of a ₦70,000 minimum wage to corps members.

According to multiple statements released by the NYSC on August 11th, 2024, no directive has been issued by the relevant government authorities to initiate such payments or to upgrade corps members' bank accounts in anticipation of this new wage.

Social media reports had suggested that corps members were advised to upgrade their bank accounts, which are allegedly categorized as Student Accounts with deposit limits of ₦50,000 and savings caps of ₦300.

However, the NYSC, through its Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, labeled these reports as misleading and unfounded.

The organization emphasized that it has not received any official instructions to begin paying the ₦70,000 minimum wage or to upgrade accounts for such payments.

Megwa stated, "Management has been drawn to misleading information circulating in the media regarding payment of ₦70,000 minimum wage to Corps Members and the directive to upgrade their accounts. This is absolute falsehood which is far from the truth.

Corps Members, parents, and members of the public should note that no directive has been received from the relevant sector of government responsible for wages matters."

The NYSC further admonished corps members to ignore these rumors and warned bloggers and social media influencers against issuing unauthorized statements concerning the management of the National Youth Service Corps.

The organization reiterated that corps members are aware of the approved channels and modes of communication within the scheme and should rely on those for accurate information.
