The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has issued a stern warning to George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), urging him to ensure fair representation in his appointments across the North-Central zone of Nigeria.
The Forum, led by Chairman Saleh Zazzaga, expressed deep concern over what they perceive as Akume's favoritism towards appointing individuals predominantly from his ethnic group, the Tiv of Benue State.
The Forum's statement highlighted that such biased appointments could undermine the unity and effectiveness of the APC in the region. "Rather than carry the North-Central along, Senator Akume has been favouring his Tiv people of Benue State in the lopsided appointments he has made," the Forum stated.
They emphasized that this approach contradicts the expectations set when the position of SGF was allocated to the North-Central zone following President Bola Tinubu's election in 2023.
Appointed as SGF in June 2023, Akume, who previously served as a governor and minister, is now facing mounting pressure to rectify these imbalances.
The Forum warned that failure to address these concerns would lead to organized protests and calls for his removal. "We are calling on the SGF to reconsider his leadership approach to ensure that the zone benefits from the Office," Zazzaga urged.
