Novak Djokovic achieved a monumental milestone in his illustrious career by winning his first Olympic gold medal on Sunday August 4, 2024, in Paris, France.

The 37-year-old Serbian tennis legend triumphed over Spain's Carlos Alcaraz in an enthralling men's singles final at the Roland Garros Stadium. The match was a testament to Djokovic's resilience and skill, ending with scores of 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2).
The victory was particularly important for Djokovic, who had previously secured nearly every major tennis honor except for Olympic gold.

His impressive career already boasted a record 24 Grand Slam titles and the most weeks spent atop the rankings by any player, male or female. However, the Olympic gold had eluded him until now.
The final was a gripping contest, with the first set alone lasting more than 1 1/2 hours. It featured epic rallies and intense games, including one that stretched over 18 points and more than a dozen minutes.
Djokovic's superior performance in the tiebreakers, where he clinched the last four points in the first set, proved decisive. At 3-all, Alcaraz delivered a body serve, but Djokovic's cross-court forehand return winner set the tone for his eventual triumph.
Reflecting on his victory, Djokovic said, "I put my heart, my soul, my body, my family — my everything — on the line to win Olympic gold. Incredible battle. Incredible fight." This win also made Djokovic the oldest man to secure the singles gold in tennis since 1908, preventing the 21-year-old Alcaraz from becoming the youngest.
Djokovic's journey to this historic win included overcoming a knee surgery just two months prior and defeating long-time rival Rafael Nadal in the second round.
His emotional reaction after the final point, dropping his racket and kneeling on the clay, signified the importance of this achievement. He then celebrated by waving the Serbian flag and kissing the gold medal as the national anthem played.
This victory places Djokovic among the elite group of players who have completed a career Golden Slam, joining Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams.
