The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended 15 suspected looters in Kano State.

The arrests were made following the recent unrest at the newly built NCC Industrial Park, which was targeted during a nationwide hunger and hardship protest.

The commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammad Falala, disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the suspects were caught with various stolen items, including computer desktop sets, keyboards, LCD TVs, executive chairs, doors, window frames, and drawers. "We have launched an investigation and will take legal action against the offenders," Falala stated.

The looting incident occurred on Thursday, August 1st, 2024, when hoodlums ransacked the ICT centre, scheduled for commissioning next week, and set it ablaze.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as protesters carted away valuable appliances before igniting the facility.

In response to the violence, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf declared a 24-hour curfew across the state. "We are deeply concerned by the turn of events and are taking all necessary measures to restore order.

I urge all residents to remain indoors as security agencies work to enforce the curfew," Governor Yusuf said.

The NSCDC’s Anti-Vandalism, Armed Squad, and Operations Department, acting on credible intelligence from the Intelligence and Investigation Department, carried out the arrests.
