Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has raised significant concerns about Nigeria's lack of progress, attributing it to the country's failure in implementing policies effectively.
Speaking at an event in Abuja, Obasanjo described Nigeria as a "burial ground for unimplemented policies," emphasizing that while the nation is not short on policy creation, it suffers from a leadership deficit in executing these plans.
Obasanjo highlighted a troubling pattern where Nigeria seems to be taking "one step forward and three steps backward," due to the inability of its leaders to translate policies into action.
He stated, "It is not enough for leaders to have policies or make statements. We are not short of policies in Nigeria. Unfortunately, Nigeria has become a burial ground of policies that are either unimplemented or unexecuted."
The former president's remarks underscore the urgent need for competent leadership and effective policy execution to drive national progress. Without breaking this cycle, he warned, Nigeria's advancement would remain elusive.
This situation points to broader issues of governance and accountability within the country, suggesting a pressing need for systemic change to ensure that policies result in tangible benefits for Nigerians.
