16-year-old Habeebah Akinsanya was found dead on Sunday, September 1, 2024, after being killed by Kidnappers despite her father paying a one million naira ransom to her kidnappers.
The harrowing event took place in Mile 6, a community in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Habeebah, a student of Lisabi Grammar School in Abeokuta, was abducted on Friday. Her father, Aremu Akinsanya, who is a member of the state's security outfit, So-Safe Corps, immediately reported the incident to the Kemta Police Station in Abeokuta.
However, the kidnappers soon contacted him, demanding a ransom of one million naira for her release. Desperate to save his daughter, Mr. Akinsanya transferred the money to an Opay account provided by the kidnappers. He was then directed to a location near Obasa, a few kilometers from the OGTV/Mile 6 area in Abeokuta, to recover his daughter.
Tragically, when Mr. Akinsanya arrived at the designated location on Sunday morning, he discovered Habeebah's savagely mutilated body covered with soldier ants.
The kidnappers had brutally murdered her, leaving her body with multiple machete wounds. According to a source, the kidnappers contacted Mr. Akinsanya again on Sunday, demanding a second ransom, even after they had already killed his daughter.
The spokesperson for the police in Ogun State, Omolola Odutola, stated that the incident was initially reported as a missing person case until the girl's body was found.
The police have since launched an investigation into the incident. This case has raised major concerns about the effectiveness of law enforcement and the safety of residents in the region.
