A political clash has emerged between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. The controversy centers around Makinde's call for the removal of Mrs. Babalola Oluwatoyin, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State.
The APC has strongly criticized Governor Makinde's request, asserting that "neither Ondo State nor the electoral body is an appendage of Oyo State."
Alex Kalejaiye, the spokesperson for the Ondo APC, described Makinde's directive as "absurd" and emphasized that the REC has shown "integrity, competence, and capacity to handle any election."
Kalejaiye further argued that Makinde holds no political influence in Ondo and labeled his advice to voters as "insulting," highlighting the political sophistication of the Ondo electorate.
He stated, "The people of the state are politically sophisticated and act on conviction, not easily swayed."
The APC also pointed out its strong organizational presence in Ondo, claiming it has "unbeatable structures across the state" and is well-prepared for the elections.
The party suggested that Makinde should focus on the challenges facing Oyo State, rather than interfering in Ondo's affairs. "Our counsel to the governor is to focus on the myriad of problems currently facing Oyo State," the statement added.
