The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the lead-up to the Ondo Governorship Election took decisive action in Akure to curb vote buying and other electoral malpractices.

The EFCC operatives executed a well-coordinated sting operation at two nightclubs in Akure, based on credible intelligence, which led to the arrest of 127 individuals suspected of engaging in fraudulent activities. This operation was part of a broader effort by the EFCC to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process.

The EFCC's intervention in Akure was not an isolated incident but rather a continuation of its commitment to tackling electoral fraud.

The Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, had previously assured Nigerians of the commission's readiness and competence to address vote buying and other forms of electoral misconduct. He emphasized that such practices are human actions that can be stopped through vigilant reporting and enforcement of the law.

In addition to the nightclub raids, the EFCC's presence was also noted at polling units, where personnel were seen working alongside police officers to maintain order and prevent any form of electoral malpractice. This proactive approach by the EFCC shows its strategic plan to combat corruption and uphold the integrity of Nigeria's electoral system.
