Israel launched a military offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon, resulting in at least 100 deaths and over 400 injuries.
The airstrikes targeted more than 300 Hezbollah sites across southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and near the Syrian border. This marks one of Israel's largest military operations in the region in recent years.
The escalation followed a series of cross-border clashes, which were reportedly triggered by Hezbollah's support for Hamas in Gaza. According to Lebanon’s health ministry, the casualties included women, children, and medics. Residents across Lebanon, including in Beirut, were urged to evacuate areas near Hezbollah posts, although Lebanon’s Information Minister Ziad Makary dismissed these calls as psychological warfare aimed at causing chaos.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that the operation was intended to "secure the northern border and ensure the safe return of residents." He added, "We are deepening our attacks in Lebanon," emphasizing that the operations would continue until their objectives were achieved.
In retaliation, Hezbollah fired rockets at Israeli military posts, further escalating tensions. Israel claimed to have hit more than 300 Hezbollah targets, focusing on locations where Hezbollah allegedly stored weapons.
The situation remains volatile as both sides continue to exchange heavy fire, heightening fears of a larger conflict. Beirut resident Joseph Ghafary expressed the growing fear among locals, stating, "If Hezbollah carries out a major operation, Israel will respond and destroy more than this."
