Paris 2024: Simone Biles Wins Silver in Women's Floor Final, Secures 11th Olympic Medal

American gymnastics legend Simone Biles has added another accolade to her illustrious career. On Monday, August 5th, Biles clinched a silver medal in the women's floor exercise final, marking her 11th overall Olympic medal.

The 27-year-old gymnast delivered a high-difficulty routine that earned her a score of 14.133. Despite several out-of-bounds stumbles resulting in a penalty of -0.6, Biles' performance was enough to secure second place. She was narrowly edged out by Brazil's Rebeca Andrade, who scored 14.166 to take the gold. Team USA's Jordan Chiles, 23, completed the podium with a bronze medal, scoring 13.766.

Reflecting on her journey, Biles said, "Let us soak up the moment we've worked our whole lives for." This sentiment resonates deeply, especially considering her return to form after the "twisties" forced her to withdraw from several events at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Earlier in the day, Biles faced challenges on the balance beam, where she stumbled and finished fifth with a score of 13.100. Despite this setback, her achievements in Paris have been remarkable. She secured gold medals in the women's team final, the all-around final and the individual vault final, bringing her total gold medal count to seven.

Biles' performance in Paris has solidified her status as the most decorated U.S. gymnast in Olympic history, surpassing Shannon Miller's record with eight medals.
