An American Airlines flight from Milwaukee to Dallas-Fort Worth was the scene of a dramatic mid-air incident when a Canadian passenger attempted to open an aircraft door, claiming he needed to exit immediately.
The situation escalated as the man attacked a flight attendant, injuring her wrist and neck in his attempt to access the cabin door.
Passengers Doug McCright and Charlie Boris, along with others, quickly intervened to subdue the disruptive individual.
McCright, who was sitting in the front row, described his immediate reaction: “The only thing you could think about was, 'I’ve gotta stop this guy.'”
Boris, upon learning of the commotion, rushed to the front of the plane and helped restrain the man by pinning his legs down. He noted that duct tape was used to secure the passenger, a measure included in the onboard safety kit.
The flight attendant involved reported that the passenger's voice grew louder and more agitated as he insisted on exiting the plane, even claiming at one point that he was the "captain."
Despite attempts to deescalate the situation, the man persisted, leading to the passengers' decisive action. Upon landing at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, authorities found the passenger restrained with duct tape, lying on his stomach with his hands and ankles bound. He was subsequently transported for evaluation, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
American Airlines emphasized the importance of safety and security, stating, “The safety and security of our customers and team members is our top priority, and we thank our team members and customers for managing a difficult situation.”
