The incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu made a resolute declaration: "The persecution of the Igbo people in Nigeria stops with me."

Kanu emphasized that this ongoing trend of ethnic persecution cannot continue, underscoring his commitment to campaigning for the freedom of the Igbo people. "This almost global orchestrated persecution of Igbo people stops with me. It can never happen. I am campaigning for the freedom of my people, as simple as that," Kanu stated firmly.
The trial has been fraught with controversy, including allegations of ethnic persecution and calls for Kanu's release from various quarters, including Jewish priests.
The situation escalated when Justice Binta Nyako announced her decision to recuse herself from the trial after Kanu expressed a loss of confidence in the court.
