Plateau Govt Enforces 24-Hour Curfew on Jos-Bukuru Metropolis Amidst Growing Tensions

The Plateau State Government, under the leadership of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a stringent 24-hour curfew on the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.

This decisive action, effective from midnight, was taken to address escalating security concerns and maintain public order in the region.

The imposition of the curfew followed a series of violent incidents where criminal elements exploited ongoing nationwide protests to wreak havoc.

According to a statement by Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Mutfwang, "unscrupulous individuals armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction in Jos North Local Government Areas, looting foodstuffs and other valuable items."

Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the curfew is in the best interest of all citizens, urging full compliance to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

He directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly across the affected areas. The governor also warned those planning further acts of terror to desist immediately or face severe legal consequences.

The curfew was also a response to threats from residents of Bauchi Road in Jos North, who had vowed to unleash mayhem on those not participating in the protests against bad governance.

Despite earlier peaceful demonstrations, tensions escalated when protesters demanded that traders and residents join them or shut down their businesses.

In his statement, Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the citizens of Plateau State, particularly religious leaders, for their unwavering support of government policies and their commitment to maintaining peace.

He praised the peaceful conduct of the populace before, during, and after the nationwide protests, urging continued adherence to this culture of peace as efforts are made to build a united and progressive Plateau.
