Anthony Ammirati, a 21-year-old French pole vaulter, has recently made headlines for an unexpected and unfortunate incident during the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Competing in front of a hometown crowd at Stade de France on August 3, 2024, Ammirati's Olympic debut took an unforeseen turn when his attempt to clear a height of 5.70 meters ended in a mishap.

As he vaulted, his crotch caught the crossbar, sending it crashing down and effectively ending his competition.

Despite the physical readiness he felt going into the event, Ammirati admitted, "I was 100% physically, but I was missing a bit of pole vault." The conditions were favorable, yet this split-second error dashed his podium dreams.

Reflecting on his performance, he expressed disappointment, stating, "It’s a big disappointment. It’s the first time I’ve started a competition without any stress. As I was a total outsider, I only had one goal: to play with the audience. I was almost there."

The incident quickly went viral, with many on social media expressing both sympathy and humor regarding the situation.

Ammirati, who placed 15th in the qualifying round, shared a tribute from the French sports academy Envol, which read, "We are proud of you @anthony_ammirati. Despite the last two physically disrupted weeks, you managed to be there, even if we are frustrated like you for this bar at 5m70. We wish you to live an unforgettable Olympic experience."
