The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the arrest of six Spanish nationals allegedly sponsoring ongoing nationwide protests in Nigeria.
These arrests were part of a broader crackdown on individuals inciting unrest by hoisting foreign flags and calling for a change of government in states such as Kano, Kaduna, and Zamfara.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Garba, confirmed that his command had arrested the Spaniards along with 76 other suspects, including a tailor sewing Russian flags.
The suspects have been transferred to Force Headquarters due to the severity of their actions, which involve sedition and national security concerns.
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, revealed that diaspora sponsors of the protests have been placed on a watchlist and will be arrested upon arrival in the country.
Meanwhile, protests continued to escalate in various regions, with major incidents reported in Port Harcourt, where protesters blocked major roads and marched to the private residence of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Despite the unrest, authorities emphasized that no force was used against innocent protesters, and efforts were made to maintain order and security.
