The Nigerian Presidency has taken steps to ensure that there is no leadership vacuum. According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the governance of Nigeria remains stable and uninterrupted.
The designated leaders in charge during this period include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and various ministers. These officials are tasked with overseeing the country's affairs, ensuring that "all state organs are functioning as usual."
The Presidency emphasizes that both the President and Vice President remain fully engaged with national affairs despite their physical absence.
This arrangement is not unprecedented; a similar situation occurred during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari when both he and then-Vice President Osinbajo were simultaneously out of the country.
The statement reassures the public that the administrative structure is intact, with service chiefs playing a supportive role to maintain the smooth operation of government machinery.
