U.S. President Joe Biden is scheduled to meet with his Republican predecessor and successor, Donald Trump, at the White House this week.

This encounter is noteworthy given the historical context of Trump's refusal to concede the 2020 election to Biden and his decision not to attend Biden's inauguration. The meeting is set for Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Oval Office, as confirmed by White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre.

The meeting comes after Biden, aged 81, reached out to Trump following the recent election to congratulate him on his victory and invite him to the White House.

This gesture aligns with the traditional protocol surrounding power transitions in the United States, despite Trump's previous departure from such conventions in 2020. Trump is poised to be sworn in for his second term as president on January 20, 2025, after defeating Kamala Harris in the election.
