President Paul Biya of Cameroon, aged 91, made a public return to the country effectively quelling widespread rumors about his death.

His arrival at Yaounde's international airport was a moment, broadcasted live on state television CRTV.

The footage showed Biya shaking hands with officials and being warmly received by a jubilant crowd, alongside his wife Chantal.

This public appearance was crucial in addressing the speculation that had arisen due to his prolonged absence from the public eye. Questions regarding Biya's health and whereabouts had been mounting since he was last seen at the China-Africa summit in Beijing at the beginning of September.

As a CRTV presenter aptly put it, “Today the president is on his way and this will put an end to all the speculation.” The relief and celebration across the nation were palpable, with billboards displaying his portrait and messages like “Welcome home, Mr President of the Republic.”
