President Tinubu Honours Late COAS by Postponing Federal Executive Council Meeting

F.Adenike

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has postponed the Federal Executive Council meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, November 6.

This decision was made to honor the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on Thursday, November 5.

The announcement came from Tinubu's spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, who stated, "President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, has rescheduled the Federal Executive Council meeting till another date to be announced."

The postponement reflects the President's deep respect for military leadership and the national mourning practices in Nigeria.

Lt. General Lagbaja served as the Chief of Army Staff from June 19, 2023, until his untimely death. In tribute to his service, President Tinubu has ordered that flags be flown at half-mast nationwide for seven days.

This act signifies the importance of honoring those who have dedicated their lives to the nation's security.

This development is part of a broader context of political and social dynamics in Nigeria, including President Tinubu's recent congratulatory message to former U.S. President Donald Trump on his election victory, which highlights ongoing international diplomatic relations.

Additionally, public reactions to the EndBadGovernance protest continue to point to civil unrest and overnance challenges within the country.
